Lakers: Kobe, 6th All-Time Scoring Leader

Looking to sweep the season series against the Hawks and creep in a little closer to the 2nd place Mavericks, they looked to win their 8th straight game coming out of the All-Star break. As the game starts you notice the game's fast paced tempo right away trading buckets early in the game. But as soon as the game progressed, the Lakers pulled away little by little and held on to take the win 101-87.

Great defense resulting to only under 40% shooting by the Hawks. Good bench production especially from Lamar Odom. In the paint intimidation offensively and defensively. The major thing though is having to take advantage of their size. Other than the difference in number of rebounds and blocks, the Laker bigs are altering the inside shots of the Hawks thanks mostly to the 23 yr old Andrew Bynum. Bynum had 16 points and 16 huge rebounds for another amazing performance.
Great offensive performance by the Lakers having dominate the paint shooting at a very high 58% in the 1st half and 50% overall.

Another historical moment for the Mamba. Kobe Byrant moves past Moses Malone for 6th place in the all time scoring list. Being part of the top ten in any statistic's list is a great feat in itself. 6th in the scoring list? Now that's another story. Scoring 26 points the entire game and another strong 15 point 1st half for the future hall of famer. Next target? His former teammate, 4 time NBA champion, Shaquille O'neal. I don't expect Kobe to get past him anytime this year, unless he gets a little more than a thousand points by the end of the season that is.

These are the Lakers that we saw play in the 1st 2 weeks of the season. Looks like they're looking more and more like back to back champs. It's impossible to defeat these guys if they continue to perform like this. Next stop, south beach, where the Heat embarrassed the Lakers on Christmas day. A must watch and must win game for the both teams! Don't even think about missing this one!
